Microsoft Entra ID: Passkey support for B2B users

MC1459133 · published Aug 21, 2026 · updated Oct 8, 2026 · 4 replies

Microsoft Entra ID will support passkey registration and sign-in for B2B users, enabling phishing-resistant MFA in resource tenants starting late October 2026. Internal guest users get Microsoft Authenticator app passkeys; external users do not. The feature is enabled by default, intersecting with SMS/voice retirement policies. No action required, but administrators should review policies.

Has anyone tested this? I tried today but unable to get passkey working as guest! Hoping i was just a little early to test!

It says late October so I'm guessing the rollout will start in a week or two. I'm sad that it is limited to internal guests only, but for most of my scenarios where it's me accessing the my diferent tenants it works well enough.
